The transfer of personal data between the European Economic Area and South Korea has been possible since being authorized on 17 December 2021 by a European Commission adequacy decision.

The Korean personal data protection law, the “PIPA” and the powers it gives to the Korean person information protection commission comply with the GDPR’s equivalence principle pursuant to a European Commission assessment.
